Teikoku USA Inc. offers many pump standard and optional configurations of canned motor pump technology to meet every pumping requirement with a sealless and leakproof solution. All pumps are supplied with hydraulic thrust balance and a secondary containment mechanism as standard providing optimum safety and environmental protection. Additionally, a bearing condition monitoring device is also standard equipment in all specialty designs to provide critical operating data for extended operating life. Specialty applications are numerous and can be provided in technical collaboration with users for design, QA documentation and use of ancillary equipment consistent with customer and industry standards and specifications. Teikoku USA Inc and the Chempump Division offer a large variety of sealless pumps, leakproof pumps and canned motor pumps for high system pressure applications. Leakproof pumps can be designed and documented for Maximum Allowable Working Pressures (MAWP) up to 5,000 psi. The secondary pressure-retaining components are designed to the same MAWP criteria as the primary containment components. Design criteria and documentation based on third party, ASME Section III industry standard code. These high-pressure designs offer the same features and benefits as standard canned motor pumps, such as hydraulic thrust balance, internal bearing alignment, secondary containment, bearing wear indication and/or rotor position monitoring. Canned motor pumps are especially suited for submerged service due to unique technical advantages, including:
  1. Only minor changes are required to modify canned pump for submerged service. Typically, the only modifications required are to seal the motor lead wires and construct the external components of a material compatible with the process fluid.
  2. A single bearing system. Only two bearings required to support the rotating assembly and these are located inside the pump at the bottom of the sump or vessel, eliminating long shaft alignments and bearing support systems.
  3. Complete product containment, requiring no dynamic seals. All connections are welded to the cover plate and the process fluid is therefore confined to the discharge pipe connection exiting the cover plate.

Vertical In-Line pumps with the motor up are available for most pump casing/impeller combinations. Mounting the pump in the vertical position with the motor up is an ideal configuration for canned motor pumps because it eliminates most of the radial loads on the bearings. When the pump is in operation, the hydraulic thrust balance lifts the rotating assembly off of the thrust bearing so there is no mechanical contact. With the reverse circulation option, the motor section is continuously vented. As a result, this configuration is a good choice for applications that require users to pump volatile liquids. For pumping toxic, or otherwise classified, lethal liquids, Teikoku USA Inc and the Chempump Division will supply leakproof, sealless canned motor pumps designed and controlled to a third party criteria detailed in Section VIII of the ASME Pressure Vessel Code. Key features include:

Teikoku USA Inc and the Chempump Division offer a complete line of sealless, leakproof canned motor pumps fully conforming to ASME B73.3M Specification for Sealless Horizontal End Suction Centrifugal Pumps for Chemical Process. In addition to the dimensional requirements, the hydraulic performance specified in Table 5 of this standard is also met. The Hydraulic Institute's standard for sealless pumps, ANSI/HI 5.1-5.6 is also incorporated into every design. Using canned motor pumps in many conventional ANSI pump applications eliminates the requirements for costly mechanical seals and complicated seal flush plans as well as the ongoing maintenance required of each. Teikoku USA Inc and the Chempump Division offer a complete line of sealless, leakproof canned motor pumps fully conforming to API 685 Sealless Centrifugal Pumps for Petroleum, Heavy Duty Chemical, and Gas Industry. API 685 is the sealless pump equivalent to API 610, which has been the industry standard for sealed centrifugal pumps for many years. Using canned motor pumps in many of these applications eliminates the requirements for costly mechanical seals and complicated seal flush plans and provides users with a sealless product documented to current industry standards. TRG Teikoku's patented Rotary Guardian (TRG) bearing wear monitor provides a view for operators into the internal working of canned pump operation. The TRG continuously monitors the critical running clearances between the stator and rotor. Teikoku USA Inc and the Chempump Division’s sealless, leakproof canned motor pumps have been used successfully pumping liquefied gas at cryogenic temperatures for many years. The inherent compact design and lack of dynamic seals makes canned motor pumps ideal for the transfer of liquid nitrogen, liquefied natural gas, liquid oxygen, and other liquefied gases. For cryogenic applications, the entire pumping unit is constructed of stainless steel and bearing journal configurations and circulation flow paths are engineered to meet specific requirements. Canned motor pumps, especially those with internal circulation, are ideal for pumping fluids with high melting points. Because the pump and motor are combined into one unit with only one internal rotating part, the entire unit can be completely jacketed for either steam or electric tracing. This allows users to maintain a temperature above the melting point of the fluid, eliminating any “cold spots” where the liquid could solidify. Common fluids with high melt points are Maleic and Phthalic Anhydride, resins and alkylated phenols. The use of a temperature probe is highly recommended to ensure the fluid is in a liquid state. Constant wide range temperature cycling causes many problems for most pumps. The ongoing expansion and contraction of dissimilar materials can cause premature wear and tear on parts and seals. To prevent the premature deterioration of critical components, Teikoku USA and Chempump offer canned motor pump solutions that maintain a constant temperature in the motor housing, unaffected by the temperature fluctuations of the process fluid. Here's how it works: Non-cooled BX-Type features the X High Temperature motor design used with the externally cooled circulation path to isolate the liquid in the motor section of the pump. The fluid in the motor section is circulated through the motor by an auxiliary impeller located on the rotor. It then exits the motor via an external circulation line, is cooled by the ambient temperature of the environment and then reenters the motor to lubricate the bearings and cool the motor. High temperature motor windings allow the motor to operate at higher temperatures. Once the pump reaches its equilibrium point, the motor temperature remains constant regardless of the process fluid temperature. Because the fluid used in the motor section circulation is returned behind the pump impeller, BX style pumps are also ideal for constant high temperature, non-cooled service where system NPSHA is relatively low. In Heat Transfer Fluid circulation systems featuring condensate fed suction vessels, this is particularly beneficial. BX Type pumps, by design will offer the lowest NPSHR of any other sealless pump because the circulated fluid is never returned to the eye of the impeller. Canned motor pumps are the safest, most reliable pumping solution for refinery alkylation unit applications. Secondary containment, bearing wear or rotor position monitoring, and conformance to proven industry standards including API 685 compliance and certification by ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code, Section III, Class 1, 2 & 3 with documentation capabilities to Section IX for lethal pressure vessels are just some of the features that enhance the safety and performance of these pumps. Standard materials of construction for our canned motor pumps are carbon steel, stainless steels, Alloy 20 and Hastelloy C. Special materials such as Hastelloy B, Monel, Inconel, Nickel, Titanium and Zirconium are also available for maximum corrosion resistance and/or material compatibility from cryogenic to 1000O F applications in robust sealless designs. Canned motor pumps are ideal for pumping fuming acids such as sulfur trioxide, oleums and chlorosulfonic acids because they are leakproof, sealless and offer positive secondary containment. Even in the event of a primary pressure boundary failure, the fuming acids will not leak into the environment. Canned motor pump sealless designs also prevent contaminants from leaking into the system.
